  1. hi i just converted an avi with main concept to the vcd settings.im not
to good with this stuff so i basicaly left things more or less the way
the program set it to.the results were great but the only thing is the
avi is 680 megs the converted mpg came out to 530 megs.what kind
of settings should i adjust that would bring the converted mpg to
about the same size of the avi.i assume the quality would also get
better. i hope this makes sense to someone.

    thanks

  2. just for info mainconcept.com has its own user forum.

I have used MC but not to great effect, however if you want to increase the size of your mpeg file to the size of the avi you would increase the bitrate at which the program encodes.

This is done in the advanced settings. You would possibly need to increase these by trial and error although i would safely say that if you wanted to increase the size of the resultant mpeg file then difference between the 700mb cd capacity and 530 mb size of the file is a percentage difference of 32%.

You might try an increase in the bitrate of say 25% which might be accommodated. Bear in mind it depends on whether you are using constant bitrate or variable bitrate.

To save time perhaps you could encode a small portion of your movie say 10 mins or so and then divide this into your total movie time. Multiply this by the resultant output from your test file would give an approx size of the end mpeg.

Sounds a bit convoluted but its a way that i have used and it works!!

    hope this is of help
