    Hi all,

I just bought an Aopen 2412 Pro dvdburner ( + ) and had to spent days first to understand all the technicalities on the web on how to rip, shrink and burn your own dvd's.

Now i followed all the guides on this site but neither my dvd+r or rw will play on my Panasonic RV32 standalone player, but they both run perfect on my lite-on pc dvd-player.

My Panasonic says NO DISC, since it's all to technical for me i really wouldn't know if i ripped, shrinked or burnt the wrong way.

    What I did :

    1.Used Smartripper to rip a 5,41GB DvD ( dvd-5 or 9 ???? couldn't find which it is )
    2. Used DvDshrink103 to make it 3,65 GB, removed audio and subtitles
    3. Burnt the DvDR in Nero with the guide put on this site, using udf 1.2 in Nero and DvD-Rom
    4. Burnt the DvDRW in Nero but than with DvD-Video through the wizard.

Used another guide where u keep holding the 2 or 3 number on your remote for bit something, but nothing happened.

Anyway after days of looking, reading , trying i really don't know what's wrong, hopefully someone knows.

    Thanks.

Sounds like a UDF problem to me.

The latest version of nero had a problem when using the "DVD Video" option to burn. It uses, (pardon me if I get these numbers slightly wrong), 1.05 of the UDF standard and some DVD players only recognise 1.02 so if you burn a dvd and put it in one of these players it politely asks you to remove the toasted tea cake that you seem to have stuffed into its draw.

Myself I got fed up of nero's little tantrums so I got DVD Imager from www.doom9.org which allows you to point to the folder where your VIDEO_TS is stored and create an image file which I then burn with the software that came with my DVD R drive.

    Hope this helps

    Cheers

Well that's exactly why I followed the only guide here, i think my Panasonic is a rather new player but since the guide says udf 1.2 will work most of the time i applied it.

  5. Media...

Try the DVD on someone's dvd player that is different from yours. On the menu on the left -- you can find if your DVD player can do the media you are trying to use.

stay away from nero it causes nothing but many compatible problems, your method uptil then was fine but try using ulead dvd workshop to burn, i've found it to be great and have never had any compatibility problems with my player(pioneer dv350) or family that have borrowed the discs,
i've read that the bug is fixed in nero5.5.10, but i was so put off with the problems i had in earlier version that i never gave it a try.

    p.s. great for doing cd's though...funny that!!

read this about your player, may help you with which media to use, it seems to be very picky

I've used Nero on hundreds of DVDs if he goes by the guide and gets the current version he'll be fine.

BTW What kind of media were you using there?

    Hi all,

Thanks for the tips, reading them it only seems to be a burn problem, if i'm correct.

To answer the question, i was using TDK Recordables, i've also got Philips recordables here but the problem is the panasonic won't accept RW, if I read the comptability list, so it's a bit a waste burning a lot of DVD+R's but that's the only way to test i guess.

Are there any specific settings i need to look at in Ulead DvD workshop ?

Well i just burned the same DVd on another medium Philips instead of TDK, used Instant Copy instead of Nero, but my dear Panasonic says NO DISC again, Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Tried Ulead as suggested, was delivered with the burner but it doesn't recognize or work with vob files.
Couldn't find DVD Imager anywhere as in the first reply.

So I wonder if it's still a burning problem or just a useless standalone dvd player ????

The method I always use is

    1.Rip movie with DVDDecrypter
2.Run it through DVD2ONE (for movie only)
Run it through Instant Copy (for movie and features)
    3.Burn using NERO EXPRESS

I have an external Sony DVD burner and use Verbatim DVD-R media and never have any playback problems on anything tested.

    GOOD LUCK

open workshop and click the finish tab at top of page and then choose burn disc image and select burn from dvd video folder then go find your folder with vobs in(must be named VIDEO_TS and must have an empty folder named AUDIO_TS next to it,
then burn away, like i said works everytime for me and many other players i've tried

there are two options - burn from disc image and burn from dvd video folder, you must choose the second option then browse for your video_ts

Hehe, solved the problem partially and just enjoyed my first DVD.

Found it on the Aopen website, before burning a DVD+R i need to check the change book type option, with an already burned RW i can load the dvd into Nero and than Change the Book type into DVD-Rom, which i need.

So finally after one week of misery the problem is solved, no I hope by checking the option a +R will work as well, than again, changing the RW disk was no problem but now i wouldn't know what to select in Nero when burning a +R, DVD-Video, DVD-Rom,....
