  1. so, it's me again. lol

encoding video using Nero takes too long. Encoding using TMGEnc is slightly faster than Nero, but still not that fast. It takes me 1 hour to encode a 20 min video. (Nero encodes it 2 hours)

I'm willing to upgrade my computer just to make this encoding thing FAST!

    Question:

What part should I upgrade? is it the hard drive? the RAM? or the motherboard?

or would it still take that long even if i upgrade my computer

  2. CPU will definitely make a difference -- but it depends upon where you're starting. For example, going from a 2.4GZ to 3.0 probably isn't worth it. But if you only have 700mz, then upgrading would be a big improvement.

Have you looked at MainConcept? They have a demo version, and I've found it to be about twice as fast as TMPGEnc at the same quality. It's worth at least a look.

Another option you might want to consider would be a dedicated hardware encoder. They can be pricey, but it's possible you can find something reasonable that might even be cheaper than upgrading your computer.

Finally, along the same lines, you can always look into the Panasonic standalone recorder. At around $600 it would be at least as cheap as upgrading your motherboard and CPU to something high powered. If you have the ability to read DVD-RAM on your computer you could even use it as an offboard encoder (that is, real time capture and high quality encoding to the RAM disk, put in your computer and read as MPEG files).

Encoding is CPU intensive, so that is the part to upgrade if you want faster times. Depending on your system, that might mean upgrading your MB and ram in the process. I'm guessing your CPU is about 700MHz?
