  1. When I play a dvd that I have burned myself it always sticks approx two thirds of the way through. Iv'e tried different media, different players, different films. I use DVD2One, Nero 5.5.10.20 and burn using a Pioneer 104. Any ideas?

    Thanks in anticipation.

  2. Are the VOB files complete and intact, and the IFO files and VTS vectors adjusted accordingly ?

If it always stops around the same sort of point in the film I'm wondering if the rip isn't complete or something, since if it plays at all you can't be doing that much wrong. If it plays in the first instance then the IFO files and VTS vectors should be OK. Does the DVD player give an error code when it stops or anything like that ?

are you doing movie only or 1:1?

what are you ripping the DVD with and in what mode?

what make and model standalone do you have?

have you tried them on other standalones?

  4. I believe that the files are all intact and that the rip is complete. Another couple of points are that the dvd plays for much longer if played on my pc and any sticking is not as pronounced and I have also had the occasional copy that played all the way through the first time but then started to stick. The interesting thing to me is that they never stick early on in the film and I am given to understand that a dvd plays from the inner track to the outer, if this is the case do you think it could have something to do with the speed of the disk towards the outside edge given that it travels faster the closer to the edge you get. Maybe something to do with the accuracy of the tracking?

can you still answer these ones cos it's still not clear and also whether you have tried playing the DVD after you have ripped it but before using DVD2One

it will play back on your PC cos DVD-ROM's are normally quite good reading crap DVD's

at the moment I think it's a combination of poor media and a fussy standalone but a few more details will help isolate the problem

  6. I had the exact same problem with the exact same pioneer burner. It turned out to be the burning software. If you are using nero, get the latest update. I now use InstantCopy7 and it works well. I am alo using the cheapest media (79 cents with case). If you can stay away from nero. I only use it when it is absolutely necessary.

  7. Hi,

At what speed are you burning your dvd's ?? And are the dvd's certified for that speed. Try burning at a lower speed.

  8. To be honest I'm using a cheap crappy player but I have tried the dvd's on good playes i.e. Sony,Toshiba and Pioneer and I still get the exact same problems. Also the sticking I am getting is not slight, initially it starts witha brief stick and then during the next 60 secs it gets worse until it stops completely and I have to eject the disk because I cannot even skip between chapters. I use SmartRipper 2.4 and I am doing the movie only.

  9. Yes my disks are certified for the speed I use but I always burn at the lowest speed possible anyway. I think a change of burning software as suggested earlier will probably be my first step.

For all the replies so far THANKS!

I find it strange that people blame Nero cos I've used nothing but since day 1 and everything works just fine on every player I have tried and I've even been into my local hifi store and tried numerous standalones for playback compatiability when looking for new DVD players for myself, friends and family

I did have a 104 and have a 105 now and I've never had playback problems even on the fussiest of players

I always thought Nero supposedly created non compliant DVD's for certain players but for players that stutter during playback how can it be Nero to blame?

Spooks check my Nero guide HERE using the DVD-ROM (UDF/ISO) 1.02 mode that works in most players

and the DVDDecrypter guide HERE to ensure you are ripping correctly

and finally check out mrbass's guide to strip the movie only out of the DVD correctly HERE though you only need to rip the main IFO/BUP's along with the movie IFO/BUP/VOB's and not the complete DVD as shown in the guide

doing all this at least will eliminate those factors and it will then point towards the media/the burner itself/the standalones compatiability that's to blame

Sony's and Pioneer's are sometimes quite fussy with certain media and DVD compliancy

I also suggest you check the DVD plays on your PC Software player before you burn and whether or not your PC is feeding the data to the burner without the buffer being affected due to low system resources. Finally make sure the DVD is perfectly spotless and free of dust etc

have a close look at the burnt DVD in the light and adjust it so you can actually see the burned surface

Is it perfect burn or are there tiny gaps in the data? as you can normally see it if there is

  11. I don't know. When I burn with Nero, it ask me for Multisession DVD. I always ignore this..

Maybe you say yes once and clicked dont show this warning again and now, nero make Multisession dvd that got some hard time to be read by standalone dvd player ?

It's just an idea, i'm not an expert in this...
