  1. I'm having a recurring problem where I will have an ASF file that plays perfects fine in media player, but that I am unable to convert to any other format.

I've tried using TMPEG-ENC directly, and with these files (I have five or six that do this), TMPEG will lock up at a cetain point in the file every time.

I've also tried to open the files using VirtualDub 1.3, and they do open, but when I try to save to AVI the virtual dub locks up in the exact same places.

Note that these files play fine in media player. It seems as though there is an error in the file at the point where it is locking up, but in media player it plays without a hitch.

Anyone else seen this problem? Any help? Thanks.

  3. I have had lots of problems w/ asf files. These files are tricky to convert. If I am lucky I can get the files to convert by extract the audio file from them first and then using TMPGenc w/ separate audio and video. The problem I have is that usually the audio file is a BI*** to extract. The tool I have found that almost always works w/ extracting the audio is DBpoweramp. It is located in the tools section. *Note! You must get the WMV addon for this program at there site or DBpoweramp will NOT convert the audio to wav!! Next thing I have found is that if DBpoweramp does not convert the audio you need to fix the asf file. NOTE usually you will have to experiment w/ different fixing utilities. I have found that sometimes combinations work and sometimes only one works but it never seems to be the same tool fixes all files. I have NEVER been able to convert an asf file w/o separate audio and video. Good luck!!
