Say i im encodeing a movie, and theres some extras.Say the extras only take up 190mb,how do i work out how much space i need to leave so i cant get as close to 4.36g as i can. When i say space i mean working out 190mb into GB.(ie. 190mb = 0.??gb)
I need it to be in gb as the dvdrhelp calc use's gb as the dvd size.

1 K=1024 bytes.
1 Meg = 1024 K = 1,048,576 bytes
1 Gig = 1024 Meg = 1,048,576K = 1,073,741,824 bytes
The above is if you're talking about DVD, CD, or RAM/ROM storage. If you're talking about Hard Disk space and you're using the marketer's viewpoint,
1 Meg = 1,000,000 bytes
1 Gig = 1,000,000,000 bytes.
Why the difference? Because computers use binary, or base-2. 1 K is 2^10 bytes (or 1024), 1 meg is 2^20 bytes (or 1,048,576), 1 gig is 2^30 bytes (or 1,073,741,824) bytes.
So in answer to your question, if you want to convert megs to gigs, you would do #1 below if your meg is 1,000,000 bytes, or #2 below if your meg is 1,048,576 bytes.
#1: 190 MB = 190,000,000 bytes. To convert to gig, multiply the number of meg (in this case 190) by 1,000,000, then divide by 1,073,741,824 to get the number of gigs (use 1,073,741,824 instead of 1,000,000,000 because we're going to DVD here, not to Hard Disk).
#2: 190 MB = 199,229,440 bytes. Divide the number of megs (in this case 190) by 1024 (because there are 1024 megs in a gig).
Hope this helps,

wow
what a great explanation
I wudda just said divide it by 1024
190 / 1024 = 0.1855Gb
but I'm simple
