You need to use the 'Joliet' file system - this supports multi-case and long filenames.

Using ISO9660 will truncate the names to 8:3 standard and convert them to Upper case.

DOS will keep file names compatible with early operating systems like Windows 3.1 or DOS-only systems, ASCII supports a larger character set and is compatible with modern OP systems - unless you use old OP systems I would recommend ASCII.

Mines always set to ISO-1 (8.3), Mode 1, ISO9660, with Joliet. It's simply the most compatible way. ISO9660 limits the short filenames to an even simpler set of characters than DOS by the way.. just letters, numbers, semicolon and underscore, nothing else. That way, combined with 8.3, it works with pretty much any computer system on the planet, but doesnt limit you too badly in DOS (unless you really really need to put a $ or other funny symbol in a name) or in Win32 (as you have joliet, which is the same as regular long file names but limited to 64 character length, including the 4 needed for ".xyz")

Sometimes when you've made a VCD though, it doesn't change back automatically from ISO-2 (31 chara short names) / mode 2 / iso / no joliet, and you can drop a massive folder of small files onto a listing... only to wait 30 secs for them all to go thru, and see they've all changed from names like "Finals project, draft #3 (with pictures).doc" to "FINALS_PROJECT__DRAFT__3__W.DOC".... arrrrrrrrrrgh.. And as it won't change the names even if you put the settings right, you have to close the ISO project and start all over, making a point of putting the options right first.

(this effect, in 8.3 mode, makes a large number of my mp3 cds very hard to decipher without a teenytext printed inlay on the DVD player )
