i have just installed an advc-50 and hooked it up to my old dvraptor firewire card , it captures dv from my dv-camcorder no problems but i can't get it to recognise a video recorder what software works wih this setup

Video recorder?
The only thing that should be recognized by your computer is the advc unit.
I have one myself.
I use DVIO and Pinnacle studio 8.
I think you can capture with alot of programs with this baby.
I dont understand what u mean with recognizig..
All data that comes into the advc digital / analog comes out DIGITAL!

well i connect the video recorder up to the advc-50 start the video and try to capture but nothing seems to be captured , i think i am missing something , although i have no problems with dv just analogue

What capture program are you using. If you happen to be using Windows Movie Maker capture, I had terrible trouble using this program with my ADVC-50 with a VCR attached. I now use Edit Studio 2's Capture program and have not had any trouble for ages.
