  1. Hi, I'm a PC user. I burned (and tested on a set top dvd player) a couple of SVCDs which played fine. Anyway, I sent them to my brother in Canada whose dvd player won't play the thing. So I told him to try it out on his G4 Mac (OS 9.2), to no avail. What does he have to do to play the discs on his Mac? Or are we both doomed cause I used a PC to burn them on the first place?
    Please help!

If he has OSX he just needs to put the disk in and download VIDEO LAN and choose OEPN DISK, click VCD then open, and it will start playing.
(Perhaps his g4 does have OSX?!?)

    if not....
Welll..... since he is on 9.2 the only way I know of it working is if he has quicktime pro, he can get the mpeg2 component which will allow him to watch the mpeg2 file thats contained within the disks you burned.

    Playback with OS9:
Extract the mpeg file using VCDGear 1.6d (Versiontracker.com)
Then (with quicktime mpeg2 playback which you have to buy - also avaliable on versiontracker.com) he can just open the mpeg in quicktime.

There may be a player other than quicktime with mpeg component ....
maybe vcdplayer 1.5.3 i dont know if it can hanlde the mpeg file
    perhaps the dvd player application?

sorry, most use OSX and there are LOTS OF WAYS with that. Hopefully he has OSX even if its just 10.1 or something

    anyone know of another way?!?

  3. Another solution is to find out exactly which model of DVD player he has, compare it to the compatibility list here on the site and then create a VCD, SVCD or XSVCD that should work with his player.

Also remember that sometime CD-RW disks work with standalone DVD players better than regular CD-R disks.

Either that or buy him Jaguar for his birthday/holiday gift reason of your choice.
