I'm having trouble playing a movie I have. WMP would not play it, (I forget the error message) so I ran it through gspot and got this message.
In this case, DirectShow was unable to play the file. The only information returned is in the form of an error message. The full error message is as follows:
Error Number: 0x80040218
Error Name: VFW_E_CANNOT_RENDER
Full Error Text: No combination of filters could be found to render the stream.
Can anyone explain how I might go about fixing this problem?![]()

Well, it sounds to me that the file is too corrupted to be rendered. You might try opening and fixing the file using VirtualDub (free) but if Gspot can't even tell you anything about it, I wouldn't think that it could be repaired. It seems to be crashing the Video For Windows component, which should in theory be pretty hard to do.
Doh!

Thanks Prospero, I'll take a look at the video stream in VDUB. If I get a hundred thousand or so bad frames, I'll know what the problem is.
