The encoder comes with a manual in pdf. You will find it in the installation directory (C:\Program Files\MainConcept\MPEG Encoder\MPEGEncoder_en.pdf).

The manual could be better but is a very good starting point.

For further insight, visit the forum at www.mainconcept.com and see the sticky postings on how to get the best results. Once you have read all that, you are ready for some creative experimentation.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

If you are using the standalone version for DVD backups or something then the manual probably won't help much for the necessary tweaking.

I tend to use the default templates which do a fine job with fast encoding speeds and the manual will help for this. I only use the Premiere 6.5 version for Camcorder DV files and I get great results with the standard templates and have never tried the standalone version.

  5. SIRCOOKS,
would you use main concept mpeg encoder for converting DV (AVI) to mpeg or you use it for mpeg to mpeg? Their web site indicates that this is a "AVI-to-MPEG encoder. I know that you can load a mpeg as an input and re-encode it; however, I am not sure if the prformance of the encoder would be like what it has been design for (AVI -> MPEG). I am planing to buy main concept encoder to encode my DV to DVD. I have Ulead video studio which use Ulead's MPEG.Now encoder and I do not have any problem with it; however, I am wondering if I can get a better quality by main concept Encoder. Any thoughts on this? Tanks.

i just finished using this tool and i must say that the quality of the vid i burned was great.....it was however only a docum entary which was 1h 5m 14s long on one cd-r...one set back though..in the demo mode you get a main concept mpeg encoder logo at the top left of your screen..and in my vid...the colour was somewhat off sometimes...i dunno what cause that..at all..ill keep the board posted on my discoveries
