I also love DVDShrink and it works great for perhaps the majority of DVDs out there. But, it doesn't work all the time. Example, it doesn't seem to work on files that have been joined and reauthored using VOBedit and Ifoedit. If you're you're going to play this game, you still have to have access to, and be well-versed in, several other software products.
Having said that, DVDShrink is probably revolutionary. I can't wait til the author has it up to a version 2. Think of what it will do...

Oh my God not this thread again. DVDxCopy v DVD2One V IC7 v DVDShrink v CCE. Can we start closing these threads because all they do is go over the same ground, my encoder is better than your encoder. Please this is boring can we have some real posts.

I've just reasoned with the guy cos he's obviously p!$$ed for some reason and got some half decent reply out of him, then it starts getting stirred up again
the bottom line is people basically use whatever suits them best, but what everyone must realise is that what works for one does not necessarily for for someone else but to question someone elses choice obviously treads on people's toes and that's why this thread has evolved into what it is now
a slagging match, cos people get upset when their choice is questioned and even more when the insults start flying
give him a break and see what happens in the future posts
I already know a few people I wish to steer clear of on this board because of their narrowminded attiudes but for me personally I'll give TWEATTY the benefit of the doubt this time
if you want the thread to die, simply don't reply and unsubscribe and then some uselful posts will get to the top cos it will soon disappear

it's not like i'm gonna sit there and watch the process... so what's the difference to me if it takes 2,3,4,5, hours
The way I look at it, I'm getting paid to copy movies.......look me up on ebay...my user name is TWEATTY there as well.......I'll even throw in a few free... -

Someone can have multiple eBay accounts also, so anything being sold under the twinkie name doesn't necessarilly mean anything. -
Nice discussion....
Just curious - are there any people out there (err in here) who DON'T transcale or re-encode dvd's??
I usually split all my dvd9's - what's a buck more compared to the time and effort (and discussion) you eliminate that way?

Getting up in the middle of a movie to change disks just sounds silly to me. I don't have a problem re-encoding or transcoding them. They are still alot better than vhs quality. And if you just encode the movie with no menu or extras then its not bad at all(IMHO).
I'll usually watch my original dvd's when we're doing movie night on the big 60 inch TV in the livingroom and watch my backups on my 27inch in the bedroom. Actually I watch the backups alot on the 60 inch as well and hardly ever notice any artifacts or quality loss. I only watch the originals when company comes over to watch. The backups are serving their purposes in that they aren't out enough to get scratched or harmed -

On my HDTV system and progressive player, I can see artifacting on the originals, even on some of the best quality DVDs out there (like Clones, LOTR). And with some originals, the quality is pretty crappy. It's the nature of compressed video (mpeg2 in this case.) So you just have to live with a little bit of it. But, I don't think it's silly for those people who want their backups to be true backups to want to retain as much quality as possible... or the original DVD quality. It's obvious that some of us are more picky about the quality than others. If someone wants to split DVD9s to 2 DVDs, I say go for it if that's what you want. Personally, I've been reencoding DVD9s with CCE because it's as good of quality as I can get while keeping the movie on 1 DVDR. -

Yep, with my 5-disc DVD player, I really don't mind splitting the disc w/ DVDxCopy.
That said, I really don't have a problem with DVDShrink's compression. I backed-up Glengary Glen Ross at a particularly high compression (7 or 8, I think - can't remember at the moment) and the results were suitable for viewing. It was much faster than any multi-app process I've used, and it was sooo easy. Of course, I don't have a 60-inch television, so what artifacting does occur doesn't bother me as much. -

Calling others "STUPID"? Dude go back and check your spelling and punctuation! That's STUPID!!
Anyways, It's called Freedom of Choice. Thank God we still have it! Use whatever you like, but don't label everyone else as stupid or ignorant just b/c they don't agree with you or choose your methods.
What blank media do you use for burning? If you said anything other than Ritek, you must be stupid! That's the kind of labels that just make you look ignorant and narrow minded. PEACE!
