I am having a strange slowness problem with TMPGEnc. Sorry for the long post.

I have a Dell 8250 2.4 Ghz Pentium 4, XP, 256 MB 60Gig HD (Primary Master). I added a 120 Gig HD (Primary Slave) for video file storage. I edit my MPEG2 video at 6 Mbits/sec. and encode using TMPGEnc 2.5 Plus to 3MBits/sec. 2-pass VBR for VHS quality video/small file size (3 hours/DVD). This setup will convert 2 hours of video in ~8 hours.

My family loaded way to much software on the system and it started to become unstable. I made a new partition on my second drive (Primary Slave) and loaded XP with only my video software. This setup makes TMPGEnc take 14 hours to convert the same video file. I ran benchmarks using several tools and all of them indicate that my new XP session is faster. I compared TMPGEnc settings, VFAPI plug-ins, swap file. All the same.

The obvious solution is to convert video with my regular setup, but I am afraid that if I have to re-install Windows, (I have done this before with no problems) that TMPGEnc would be slower.

Thanks for your patience.
