I rip the DVD using DVD Decrypter, and use DVD2ONE, but how do I keep the "scene selection" on the DVD? What is the VOB file for scene selection? Thanks

its not a vob, all the information is in the .ifo
if you have dvd2one just do a full disk copy and you will have it all.

So just to be sure, what you want to do is backup ONLY the main movie, but keep the original menu (for scence selection). Ok you can do this and it's fairly easy:
1) Rip the entire DVD to your HD (either DVD Decrypter in file mode or Smartripper in backup mode).
2) Determine which VTS_XX_X.VOB files contain the main movie. There are a lot of ways to do this. Normally when you rip in smartripper/DVD decrypter the main movie (largest runtime) is selected by default take note of which VOB VTS series this is.
3) Erase the other other VOB files, BUT NOT the: VTS_XX_X.BUP, VTS_XX_X.IFO or VTS_XX_X.BUP files (and of course not the VIDEO_TS files). For the example below only erase the files with * next to them:
VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VTS_01_0.BUP
VTS_01_0.IFO
VTS_01_0.VOB
VTS_01_1.VOB
VTS_01_2.VOB
VTS_01_3.VOB
VTS_01_4.VOB
VTS_02_0.BUP
VTS_02_0.IFO
VTS_02_0.VOB
VTS_02_1.VOB*
VTS_02_2.VOB*
VTS_03_0.BUP
VTS_03_0.IFO
VTS_03_0.VOB
VTS_03_1.VOB*
VTS_03_2.VOB*
4) Run your favorite DVD9 to DVD5 transcoder/re-authoring program.
5) You'll get a new VIDEO_TX folder with a full menu. But because we deleted the video content of the extras when you try to select them from the menu the screen will pause for a bit/flash and then kick you back to the menu.
6) Burn as normal -

there is a process with dvd2one but why dont you try dvdshrink and compress all the extras to still picture.
thingimijig.
btw, the programs will crash because you have the original video.ifo which has information on all the vts,s, so when you get rid of some of the extras the program will crash because its looking for them because the video.ifo still says they are there. -
What do you mean....compress the extras to "still picture"??? What is still picture? And will I be able to use the scene selection option?
-
in dvdshrink there is an option to compress extras to still which means you can still have the menu and scene selection, it will compress them down to nearly nothing.

I didnt't find that erasing the vobs does it. Like previously mentioned it will give you errors. What i usually do is strip them in IFOEdit.
Say VTS3 has the trailer. There is usually a ID for the trailer (1) and a run out or whatever that is that is only .15 seconds or something like that (2). Strip it only keeping VOB ID 2. Depending on what VOB ID 1 was it can go from a 500 mg or 6mg file to 100 kb (VOB,IFO and BUP). Do that to all the VTS's that are not the main movie then run through DVD2ONE or equivalent. That's what I've been doing. Haven't figured out how to rewite the VIDEO_TS IFO yet to only keep the movie VTS. Make sure to use MENUEDIT after to get rid of the links to the extras.
Hope this helped -

What is happening to me right now using the method that I stated above is that when I pop in the movie, it just plays the movie and has no menu. When I try to press "DVD menu" on my remote, it does nothing. I don't want any other extras.........just the "scene selection" and menu in the beginning of the movie. Is there a way to do this? -

try using my guide (link in sig) along with Ifoedit
it's the Prepare the DVD section you want
after stripping the crap you can then use any backup tool to compress it to 4.37GB
even the freeze frame in DVDShrink wastes valuable space -

First thing I do is run VTS 2,4,5,7 and 8 through IFOEdit. One by one.
Example: Open VTS_02_0.IFO then look for the VOB ID's that have the .15 sec clip and write them down. Now click VOB EXTRAS and then deselect all audio and only check the VOB ID's with the short clips. This produces a VTS set that will be only be a mere few kb's. Do this for all the VTS sets that are extras. Doing this will produce a whole disk list that looks like this.
VIDEO_TS.BUP 24 KB
VIDEO_TS.IFO 24 KB
VIDEO_TS.VOB 6,000 KB

Close enough. I'm trying to remember the file sizes. I did this this morning. This has gotten rid of all EXTRAS (VTS set) and WARNINGS (VIDEO_TS set). Now you will have no problem running through DVD2ONE and you will have full use of the MENU. You have to remove the links from the extras with MENUEDIT otherwise it might freeze when someone selects it.
The problem is thought that not all DVD's have VOB ID's for those .15 sec clips. You have to do editing in IFOEdit to remove the CELL ID's and that gets more involved.
However I did keep the trailer in the VIDEO_TS.VOB because i always keep one thing on each vob so that it'll still work. I did rewrite the pre command to start the menu as soon as you put the disc in.
Remember to open IFOEdit again and open all files then GET VTS SECTORS. I do this out of habit. I've passed this part up before and everything still worked.
Maybe your DVD is similiar to this. -

Sounds like the same method I have adapted. Cool. What I mentioned before though is when I get frustrated. What's your method when the VOB ID's only break up into cells for each of the PGC's. How do you only keep the .15 sec clips? You can't just deselect the VOB ID's as this will get rid of the whole thing. Do you know how to get around this? This slows things down alot.
