  1. Before referring me to some stupid newbie guide, listen up. I'm no fool, but none of the softwre I'm using works at converting dvd to divx, here is a list of software and their problems

    OS: Win 2000 Pro, SPK3
    Codecs: Nimo, Gourdian Knot Sytem Pack, DivX Pro 5.02

    Encoding Specs:
    * Video br: 600-900 kbps
    * Audio Frequency: 44.1 or 48 khz
    * Audio Lame: 128 kbps

    XMPEG 2.4A - Program genereates errors and shuts down when i set global project settings
    XMPEG 2.5 - Can set global project settings, but wil not write avi file when i come to encode
    FlaskMPEG - Audio/Video several seconds out of synch
    Vidomi - terrible quality video
    TMPGEnc - Bad audio video synch
    VirtualDub - Audio/video out of synch
    DVDx - Ok, but missing part of audio in begenning of movie

    Please respond if you also have windows 2000 or know ways that work to convert DVD to high quality divx using win 2K!!!

    Take your own advice and read the Newb guide. It's simple to do. Try DVDDecryptor + DVD2AVI/Vfapi and Vdub, very painless.

    I'm not sure what you are using Flask or TMPG for, since your talking DivX.

  4. Just to let you know, i have read the all newbie guides and tried them (including DVDDecrypter/DVD2AVI/VFAPI/V-DUB, which is so far hte most successful), but every time the files end up being twice or more the size they're supposed to be. Also, any recomendations for a limit size for a DVD you want to fit onto one 7000 mb Divx CD? I'm trying to get in about 136 minutes so I set audio (MPEG Layer-3) to 48 KHz 96 kbps and video to anything between 550-700 kbps, DivX Pro 5.04. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (and yes, i have downloaded just about every bitrate calculator, and they're all different!!) Also, Flask MPEG has an AVI output (as does tmpg) which you can configure. And with XMPEG, can anyone help me? I get this error messgae "cannot write to file, source may be in use" even though I won't have the file open or anything.
