  1. What is H264 codec all about? From what I am reading it is much superior to MPEG4 and should be available this year.

  2. Does anyone know of an H264 site or forum?

  3. Check out mainconcept.com. It is a codec that is being developed by them and will be released later this year.

    Bad Wording Edit:

What I should have said was, they are developing an H.264 codec and they will release it later this year. Figured they would be as good of a place as any to start learning about the H.264 codec.

I'd suggest you search on Google. Other than the fact that it's an Intel Videoconferencing codec, I don't know anything about it. If it's as impressive as the other intel codecs, then I wouldn't get too excited...

Video Conferencing codecs are usuall low bitrate for traffic over the internet, and not something that would be useful around a forum like this.
Impossible to see the future is. The Dark Side clouds everything...

  5. H264 is what Divx wants to be. It is based on Mpeg4 and has many names. Earlier today, I wrote to Mainconcept and asked them to update their website for a new expected release date for their H264 codec. I also know the divx guys are working on their version of h264. It has the same performance capabilities as Mpeg2 (DVD) at less than half (39%) of the bitrate. Of course, it has a price...speed, or lack of it. It will make divx look like real-time. A first-attempt codec is available from VSS for demo use. http://vsofts.com/codec/h264.html
