I am captuing using a Digital Camcorder (via DVIO) so the resulting file is an avi in DVSoft compression, the reason I'm using DVIO is that the Summary details of the AVI dont seem to be populated by my other programs, namely VideoWave 4 and AVIIO.
I degress, the audio details shown for the captured AVI file is PCM, 192 k/s, 48khz, 16-bit, stereo. I cannot capture at a higher bitrate (are there any other DV codecs ???). Using BeSweet, is there any point in encoding the audio in AC3 at a higher bitrate than 192, better quality or the same ? I dont see the point in encoding at a higher bitrate taking up more space, if the quality of the audio is the same at 192 !
My goal is DVD, perhaps evetually AC3 audio (the captured stream is Dolby Stereo).

PCM is wave format. It is very large so I do recommend you convert to AC3 before you make your DVD. BeSweet and BeSweet GUI will help you out. I find AC3 sounds better and is much, much smaller. AC3 can use dolby surround.
Bitrate for AC3 is up to you but I use 384K. For DVD it should be 224K or 384K AC3. Or PCM on DVD is also in spec. but you may waste 1G to sound.
I think for PCM the limit is 192K, not sure. -
I have been encoding using Tmpgenc with audio (MPEG 2 audio), some have said this is poor quality and not as widely supported as AC3/PCM, I am looking at using AC3 but the bitrate question still stands.
If I capture audio at 192k and then resample at 224k or 384k for "compatibility" is the resampled file better or the same quality as the original file ?
