  1. What I have read that alot of people like the noise filtering tmpge, just wondering what settings they have used for vhs settings. I have poor qaulity vhs that Im running threw a dac-100 to capture to DV then wanting to encode to 352 x 480 mpeg2 and not sure of the bitrate to use?
To get decent qaulity im currently using 4500 with no filtering but have read that you can lower it with applying filtering and maybe even get better results? Thanks for any help.

Why don;'t you do whatever fits?

I am doing VHS to DVD myself at 352x480 and my bitrate goes from 2000 for a 2 hour movie to 2500+ for smaller movies. This is only because I am fitting 2 movies per DVD, so the bitrate is on the low side.

If you only need 1 movie per DVD you can obviously go a lot higher than that. But when you're encoding there is a wizard at the end that lets you adjust the bitrate and it shows you how much space the movie will take up at the new bitrate sizes. Do that and you can get the highest possible while still fitting on DVD-R.

  5. I should explain a little more these are copys of home movies shot with a vhs camera and interested in putting as much one dvdr that I can with out loosing anymore qaulity. Im thinking if 2500 bitrate will keep what qaulity I have I could get up to 4hrs on one dvdr, but will just have to see. The test I have run it required me to run around 4500 to stay with same qaulity. Then I started reading about filtering could make better qaulity and could use lower bitrate to get the same qaulity and now Im here :P .
I dont want to sound cheap but I plan on giving a copy everything I make to the 2 kids and I have probley 30 tapes to do so you can see where size can help. Thanks again.
