Especially DVD Shrink, as it free, deserves tremendous praise.

I find it quite amusing that some of the quality freaks who dis these two apps in favour of IC7, CCE/TMPG or two disk copies were themselves making DVD backups as VCD and SVCD less than a year ago. In fact 95% of us were ! Standards must have changed !!

Even Level 5 on DVD Shrink still produces better quality picture than SVCDS and you still get to keep the 5.1 sound and subtitles and menus/extras if you want them, and all this in a fraction of the time/effort.

Keep up the good work DVD Shrink and DVD2One.

you should NOT ASS-Ume things. I for one never backed up to VCD or SVCD because of the quality problem. I only use DVD Shrink when no encoding is required. If it needs reencoded, I use CCE as I've been saying for months.

  3. They both get plenty of praise. Especially those DVD2ONE geeks with a hard-on for anyone who uses IC7, they'll go to war for that damn program. Several threads have been started for DVDShrink as well.

    he he

So easy to hit a nerve on the CCE die-hards. I actually think CCE is great but I am a convert to the speed and simplicity of DVD Shrink and DVD2One with a small quality degradation.

I guess I should have phrased the title a little better as I realise there is lots of praise for these two apps but I was having a pop at those who are never satisfied with the quality unless their PC has been churning away for hours !!

Yeah, and us normal people are sick of ******* hearing it.
At least you had the decency to acknowledge you were one of the 'quality freaks'

what gets me is that above 75% with IC and 90% using the others the difference is miniscule even during PAUSE/ZOOM and having your SUPERMAGNIFYING GOGGLES on

during normal playback the difference between CCE & IC for anything over 85 is impossible to separate and if it is it may be a certain part of the background on a few occasions

is it really now worth all the fuss of CCE for a Backup???

most movie only's comparing IC & CCE are a very close thing. a 1:! backup ok it's a difference but what about the hassle of trying to maintain and rebuild the DVD along with the costs of the software needed

DVDMaestro & Scenarist cost more than most peoples CD/DVD collections unless you use warez

if you want quality on special occasions pull out the original, it is after all yours to play, if it's for the kids or wife then why fuss about quality

If you want top quality then split the menu/movie onto one DVD and then the menu/Extras onto another for the sake of $1 but no messing

I have discussed the quality issue a few times on Doom9, one being in this thread

also see Demi9OD's comparision in this thread and you may just see what I mean about CCE & IC being the same
