  2. Yeah, pretty sad to see someone try to get $39 for a program that has nothing different aside from a name change.

it's actually $89 for the collection that includes DVDShrink version

the $39 version doesn't and the $59 just includes Nero

so basically they are charging $30 for the addition of DVDCopyDecrypter (DVDShrink)!

    cheeky b*&%$ds

Amazing and I bet they find enough fools to make a small fortune. Would be funny if the site was hacked with links to the free programs.

You could put together a post with such tools(only tools that use free tools then) and I can then make it sticky.

  8. Not only did they rip off DVDShrink, they also ripped off Ulead's box too.

Just take a look at the screen shot of the boxes here (see JodRead's post): http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=51591&perpage=20&pagenumber=2

Yeah this is really sad. Does anyone know of any productive way to expose these people short of just warning others not to purchase the software? I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau but it says it takes 3 months to process and I don't even think this is the type of stuff they handle. I tried contacting some of the sites that link to their homepage, but none of them had any contact info.

Is this guy a licenced distributor of Nero? If so does Ahead know how questionable his other products are? Maybe we need to put pressure on someone who will actually listen, like Ahead.

the Nero they supply is the free trial as I said HERE before it was closed due to bickering (dunno of it's just a link they supply tho)

as for the packaging look HERE cos even the pic of the box is a modded version

    Legit Ulead package : here

This is a civil matter. It probably goes against the license of several companies/individuals in the programs, including Nero, DVD Decrypter, and DVDshrink.

Those authors must complain to the company, file Cease & Desist Letters, and spend the ~$50 in small claims court for the max of ~$5K for infringement and theft of IP and going against the license.

The company has their site registered in the USA:
    A Best Imports
    Pablo Valdez
    645 Springfield Ct.
    Roselle, IL 60172
    US
    Phone: 775-628-5365
    Email: genericdork@hotmail.com

It can also have a hold put on the site by way of injunction:
    Disable the DNS:
    AUTH1.NS.NYI.NET 64.90.175.14
    AUTH2.NS.NYI.NET 64.90.175.18

    ==

    I'd start with Ahead Software.
Get the authors of DVD Decrypter and DVDshrink involved. Most software law allows use of GNU, but not outright copy and resell, which is what this is.

This guy is asking for trouble, and should have has ass put in a sling by those that spent time to provide these things for free.

This is just my quick opinion without knowing more.

For those of you that have seen some of my other legal posts, this is the kind of shit I deal with at work. It's fun to bust apart a-holes like this.

Copying the Ulead box? Contact Ulead!

And while I won't endorse this, I will say that I have seen hackers in the past attack sites like this and either destroy them, overtake them, or outright DoS attack them. I've had hackers beat me to the punch at work. We all laughed around the office.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

  16. Man -- that MUST be illegal. If Ulead won't sue, certainly Microsoft will -- you can still make out the "Made for Windows XP" logo in the upper left corner.

    Like I said, that's just ******* evil...
