I'm using a Thermaltake Volcano 9. It can be set up several ways, a)using a thermal strip under the CPU to very the speed of the fan b)direct full speed or c) using a variable resistor to set the speed to what you want . I use option c to keep the temp under 50c and to keep the noise down. This unit can be very loud. Cost around $20.00 but I think it is worth it.

  7. You started out with the wrong fan. It should hook to the MB connector. You are VERY LUCKY you did not overheat and fry the chip. Don't know about 15 seconds, but an AMD 1800 put a large blister on my finger from a very brief touch in 5 seconds or less.

I have had good success with the ThermalTake fans and have yet to replace a defective one, these things really blow!

  8. i have the rite stock fan hooked to the MB at first but the fan wont turn on so i went to bestbuy and got the antec chassis fan 12.99 and tied it on top of the heat sink. it works great a lot cooler than the stock fan 37C idle. the stock fan idle at 50C

  9. I had an almost identical problem. The solution was simple: I set the FSB speed on the motherboard to 100MHz. It then started fine. After I 'd installed Windows, etc, I reset the bus speed to 133MHZ. Been ok ever since.
