  1. Im not sure what or how to describe my problem so here goes.
Got an Asus A7V8X motherboard with MSI GeForce2 MX400 graphics card.2000 xp athalon.I wanted to upgraded a bit.
    So i bought a 2200+ xp athalon.(and new fan)
    And a Sparkle GeForce4 MX440
Both are compatible with the motherboard.
    Installed fine
    Runs fine
Until i try to play a few games then the pc crashes and restarts windowns.
Ive instaled the drivers for the graphics card fine and dont understand whats happening.
What am i missing and what should i do?

  2. Did you remember to remove the drivers of the old card completely? Sometimes old drivers causes conflicts with the new drivers. I'd also suggest you go return the g4mx because that card isn't really good for today's games. Get either a g4TI4200 or a Ati Radeon 9500.

Just to clarify the comments about the Geforce 4 MX not being a good choice: going from a Geforce 2 MX400 to a Geforce 4 MX440 is probably not enough of an upgrade to justify the price you paid for the card. The Geforce 4 MX series is so cheap because it's using the same chipset as the older Geforce 2 cards. Selling a "2" at the same time as a "4" would be bad marketing, so Nvidia changed the name. They took some heat about that because the Geforce 2 MX series was the budget line for the Geforce 2 cards and were slower but had all the same hardware features, so people who didn't check would assume that the same held for the Geforce 4 MX.

  5. I have removed all the old drivers and have the same problem.Anything else?.
Is that card really no good it was £60
    Its a sparkle sp7100m4
    GeForce 4 MX 440
    128mb DDR
    Tv-out
I thought it would be twice as fast as the other card as it was 64mb,is that not how it works?

Sounds like maybe a hardware problem that can be pinpointed with a little part swapping. First, try your old video card then the old CPU because those are the new parts. Lastly, check for a bad ram chip. Other than that, power supply?

  7. Sorry, thats what Nvidia wanted you to think. Its will still be better than your old video card, but its still at the bottom of the barrel in performance. You should have spent the extra money and gotten a Ti4200 or a Radeon 9500, the performance is wayyyyy better. Check these benchmarks out.

Look at the difference between a mx440 and a ti4200.
