  1. Hi All,
As you may know last year Ulead started using its new encoding engine called MPEG.Now on Ulead products including Video Studio 6 and also 7. It is much easier for my to edit DV files which is also captured by Ulead Video Studio and then encode it to DVD format. Now my question is how the quality is compared to TMPGEnc encoding? I do know that probably everybody would say TMPGEnc is the best; however for my purpose that I convert NTSC DV to NTSC DVD (without any change in resolution), Is there a huge diffrence in terms of quality between the ulead and TMPGEnc encoders. The only reason that I prefer NOT to use TMPGEnc is that I heard a lot of audio sync problem with TMPGEnc and it is recomended just to process video only with TMPGEnc and using other softwares for audio....... TMPGEnc also does not support LPCM as system (vido+audio) file and I would like to have a single system file to import to athoring software. So, the more complex the process gets, the more chance of getting audio sync problem. If you rank TMPGEnc encoding form DV to DVD 10, what would you give to new Ulead encoder? Thanks for your help.

  5. yeah I changed from TMPGEnc to MC also but I still having problem with some MPeg2 to Vcd encoding. When I input the file it (lets say a 50min file well the audio is 50min but the video shows up as 40mins). So when I encode it the video stops at 40min but the Audio continues. So when this happens I still have to go back to TMPGEnc

hmm...I never had a problem so far w/ MC. I like this encoder, it's fast and produces better quality than TMPGenc (my opinion) when encoding HIGH MOTION SCENE MOVIES, especially at the rate of SVCD/CVD.

Now my question is how the quality [of Ulead Mpeg encoder] is compared to TMPGEnc encoding?
I seem to remember seeing that Main Concept advertised last year that it had licensed its MPEG encoder to Ulead. The Main Concept encoder is very good and is appearing in everything from Premiere to Vegas Video 3+ to...

  8. Allan55,
Based on what you said, can I assume Ulead MPEG.Now encoder and Main Concept encoder are the same thing and Ulead just change the name of the encoder for its products? Do you also think that MC encoder is better than TMPGEnc encoder? Thanks.

  9. Well... Comapring the speed of Ulead MPEG encoder and Mainconcept... I doubt they are the same. Ulead encoder's speed was somewhat in the lead of TMPGEnc. Mainconcept is almost 1X. I may be wrong but I don't think any of the editing program's encoders are as good as stand-alone programs such as CCE, TMPGEnc, and Mainconcept.

mpeg.now sucks. The Ligos encoder they used to use was pretty good but it cost them too much money so they went with mpeg.now. If you got mediastudio 6.5 dont download the update patch and stick with the ligos encoder. It is pretty good and integrated well with mediastudio.
