  1. I have an issue with DVDShrink to keep the menus functional.
I created a home movie with 2 levels of menu. It's a little too big to fit on a DVD-R (I could set to it fit but my software will reduce the bit rate to half , I only need 5 to 8% reduction). Menus do not use up much DVD space so I like to keep them.
So I use DVDShrink to compress my VIDEO_TS folder, I select all three .IFO files (one for the main video, two for the two levels of menus). After burning the new folder, and play my disc on a DVD player, the menus are shown as STILL PICTURE. I cannot select the thumbnails and get to where I want. The menu behave just like still picture.
I have to hit "NEXT" to get the the main video.
Look like DVDShrink caused a loss in the way the menu responds to the keys.
Can anyone offer me a solution ?

  3. This is from memory so I may be wrong...but it seems that I saw something on the DVDShrink program when I wanted to re-author a DVD, it stated something to the effect that menus would no longer function like they should.

I don't think DVDShrink does exactly what Instant Copy does (shrink the entire DVD with structure intact), I think it's just a replacement for DVD2ONE.

  4. I don't know what version of DVDShrink yr using, spliss, but the RE-ENCODE function DOES "shrink the entire DVD with structure intact."

As you said, though, the re-author function does render the menus useless, at least according to it's own warnings. I only use DVDShrink for re-encoding b/c the first time I attempted to re-author, I got the warning about non-functioning menus (which means, of course, that I haven't actually USED the re-author function, so I may be proved wrong)

That said, it sounds like our OP is trying to use the re-encode function, not the re-author function ("So I use DVDShrink to compress my VIDEO_TS folder"-quote OP), which shouldn't affect his menus.

Unless s/he IS using the re-author function....So which is it?

  5. I created a dvd with DVDlab with 3 buttons on the main menu. I used DVDshrink to reduce the size of it and i also can't select the 3rd button by pressing up and down on the remote. I can switch between the 1st and 2nd button (i also use the function so that u see a different menu with when selecting a button), but i can't seem to select the 3rd button, only by pressing 03 on my remote. Is there any program which can keep the menu structure intact?

  6. Thanks for the replies, I think the problem is I used the RE-AUTHOR function instead of RE-ENCODE.
I did not know you can select RE-ENCODE alone to keep the menu intact.
    Will try that again.

  8. FEH!

I've only used DVDShrink a handful of times so far, but I love it! And for a ver1.03 FREEWARE? It does everything except burn the disc -- I think you can't beat that, especially for freeware. I've only had one problem so far, and that was when DVDShrink lost the subtitles -- and I didn't need 'em anyway.

    Sorry for the highjack...

  9. I heard that InstantCopy takes 4 to 5 times longer than DVDShrink or DVD2ONE. I do not like to wait forever. InstantCopy came from Pinnacle and that means "user friendly" and "SLOW". (I also use PS8).

  10. I just tried DVDShrink again, this time I only hi RE-ENCODE and everything works fine. So simple. Trouble is the manual does not show this simple procedure clearly. It explains lot about RE-AUTHOR instead.
