  1. Hiya all,

Been asked by a friend to assist in the creation of DVDs for him. Anyways, cutting a long story short he's got:
a new TEAC 4x DVD-R/RW drive (OEM Pioneer)
a fairly 'recent' DVD player JVC XV-S302
    Latest version of Nero

As a 1st step, I grabbed some VOBs (trailers) of the Internet and used InfoEdit to create the ifo & bup files (I've no real idea what these are but hey!). I checked I could playback the directory where the VIDEO_TS files were by using PowerDVD 4 so I burnt it to a DVD-RW (Pioneer branded) using Nero. However, playing the disc in his JVC player had no result - it looked like the disc was not recognised at all. I WAS able to play the disc in my DVD player (Teac Legacy 800) - although I didn't have any audio on the 1st trailer... So the disc looks as though it was authored more or less OK.

I reburnt the disc using the UDF1.02 procedure I found on these forums which 'seemed' somehow to be better for his player (I couldn't test it on my player) but it still wouldn't play. Better as in - when the disc was read it displayed something - title 1, chapter --- rather than nothing though this may not have meant anything!

I've scanned the forum and their seems to be quite a lot of conflicting information regarding the JVC player. Some say it supports DVD-RW, some do not.

If anyone who has the player and has got it to read homemade DVDs then could you please indicate what tools (Nero could also be at fault here...) and what procedure you use.

    MANY thanks in advance!

  2. Hi ReckLessUK.

I just looked at JVC's homepage for the XV-S302 and it says:
"Plays DVD Video, CD, CD-R/RW, VCD, SVCD and MP3 formats" but nothimg about DVD-R/RW or DVD+R/RW.

    I.e. the S602 says: "Plays DVd Audio,DVD Video, DVD-R..."

  3. Thx for your reply. I had seen that JVC made no mention of supporting DVD-R[W] but on this site (checked it before he got the DVD-RW) the feedback suggests that it is possible.

Should I get him to try writing a DVD-R and seeing if that makes any difference?

  4. Hi again.

Yes you should try if the player is able to read a DVD-/+R/RW. If not maybe a firmware-update will help (if there is one available).
