  1. someone must know the answer to this as i've seen posts from other people with the same problem but with no replies!!
i'm trying to convert avi's with 48khz audio to vcd which is 44.1 khz audio with TMPEGenc. the metallic sound happens somewhere in the frequency change as i had the same problem when ripping dvd's but dvd2avi has a function that will change the frequency and this works when ripping from dvd's.
the problem is when converting avi's dvd2avi does not support audio conversion on avi's so it is not a feasable option. i've tried many different routes including using toolame and SMPX as the audio convertors, i've also used vdub to rip the audio to a 44.1khz wav and this still doesn't work.
i'm at my absolute wits end, there must be a way round this but after spending 6 days working on it , i'm begining to think there isn't
any input would be most apprieciated
the fault is also on the official tmpgenc forum but there is still no real answers
    please help

I've found that problem too. You can virtually eliminate (through my experiences) that metallic sound by using the Shibatch sampling rate converter. Using a different mp2 encoder doesn't seem to make as much of a difference as this external sampling rate converter. I noticed a huge improvement. You can download the converter at http://freshmeat.net/projects/ssrc/ which is the 1.28 version. The only problem is that the overall encoding time is longer as Tmpgenc needs to decode the audio track to a wav file (which can be pretty big when dealing with an entire movie) and then ssrc (the converter) creates another wav file about the same size - the problem is hard drive space. Hope it helps though.
