i burned an svcd that plays jumpy, or in a slow halting way, like i'm watching in super slow motion when i try it on my dvd player. it does this consistently, from beginning to end. the player is a Panasonic dvd-rp56, and i know it supports svcd because i've played others without any problems. plus, when i watch it on my pc, it plays fine. the source file for the svcd was an mpeg-2, 720x576. i tried burning using vcdeasy and ulead dvd movie factory, same problem both times. i even thought the problem was being caused by the actual file size, about 800 mb, but when i broke it into smaller files i still encountered the same problem during playback. if anyone has an idea how i might fix this, i would greatly appreciate it. thanks.

Your SVCD is actually XSVCD, because it has a resolution of 720x576. Problem might be the bitrates. Some players handle bitrates over 3000kbps, others can't. I suggest you test and find the maximum bitrates your player can handle.

hmm, i checked the bitrate of the source file, and it was listed as having a "variable bitrate" with a max rate of 2490 kbps. where as another file i used to make a standard svcd (480x480) had a set bitrate of 2450, and that svcd worked fine. do you think i should convert my xsvcd source file to have a set bitrate? if so, what program would you resommend i use? thanks again.

i am a newbie, so, please, bear with me. i don't know how to check if it's interlaced, but i don't think the fields are playing in reversed order. i say that because of what it says in the compression field in the clip properties: "NTSC SVCD, Field A,Variable bit rate (Max. 2490 kbps)". i could be reading that wrong.

Why don't you try re-encoding your source file which I assume you don't have any problems with, to follow all the SVCD rules. I think that file that you are using is encoded according to XSVCD format, so try encoding it with TMPGEnc using one of the SVCD templates.

Standard intererlaced video is BOTTOM B FIELD 1st, but in all cases, it has to match source. In the same place your read the field order, it should also say if it was interlaced or not, or progressive source.
I'd agree with VT. For newbies, try it again, using the correct templates, and find the guides on this site.I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored. -
check minimum bitrate aswell, this can also cause playback problems,
as above though, encode to standard svcd and test
