I heard that it is built on the NT 4 system, thus keeping the problem which allows hacker to get into your system from port 128. According to Microsoft they know the problem is there and the only way to fix it is to run a firewall that blocks port 128....but that's all I've heard.

I experimented with 2003 Server through the customer preview program, there was nothing special about it beyond lots of hand-holding that actually interfered with configuring it properly. Since new releases of Windows have historically been very buggy and had terrible hardware and software support, I wouldn't recommend it.

Microsoft could not produce an Advanced Server (let alone Enterprise server) with the XP collection. Rumours have it that the .Net mess was too buggy to take the strain of cluster and fault tolerance.

It took them quite a while to iron-out the wrinkles and it may be that they didn't do a very good job yet.

Windows 2003 Server and Enterprise Servers are the new attempt to produce an Advanced Server platform. It's not suitable for Workstation work. For this, the best bet is still Windows 2000. It's fast, stable, bugfree (as much as possible) and the operating system is there to do it's work, not try to entertain you!!!
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

I agree with Sasi, This thing is going to be buggy and to me i just looks like another version of XP.

  8. Well since beta testing is a ways off, it might be a better OS since from what has been leaked akready it will integrate more .net framework. They are in the beta testing stages with Office 2003 now. Hopefully it won't be as buggy as previous versions XP doesn't run half bad once you get all the service packs and patches. It's certainly better than ME or 98. I've had it for over a year and no BSOD.

  9. For a workstation do not use it.

Only advantage as a server is with the .NET software distribution system.
Yes, I have evaluated it for my work. We found no reason to upgrade to this OS.
