i have a firewire that i can capture from my dv camcorder my question is can i capture from vhs using my firewire?

You might want to check with your camcorder, but quite a few of the newer ones have a built in analog to digital converter in them. I know on the Canon ZR series for example, you hook the VCR to the analog input and the DV output to the firewire port to convert to digital. You may need to check a menu to make the analog port go to INPUT mode and not OUTPUT. Hope this helps.
