I just got the Philips 985 recorder and I transferred a few vhs tapes to discs but after I selected the chapter titles and pictures (which worked fine) I tried to insert a main menu photo and title and I couldn't. I can only have the Philips background in my menu. Is there any way around this? Or am I going to have to buy a pc dvd burner just to add menus?
Thanks for any help.

Unfortunately, yes, you'll need to get a PC burner. But the good news is that with a DVD+VR capable software (Ulead Movie Factory, for example) you can now change the menu only, which is a time saver.

Or a different recorder, not all recorders are like that. I have a Panasonic DMR-HS2 recorder and you can choose from a number of menu's, which none of them bear the name Pansonic. The menu's are very clean and look very good.

I'm curious. Do you get thumbnail menu or text menu on the HS2? I'm not certain, but I think you can get a thumbnail menu (6 thumbnails per screen) with the Toshiba X2.

Well, I bought a dvd drive and used ULEAD Movie Factory and still nothing. After I put the burned DVD in the drive and try to open it so it can be authored, it keeps coming back as unknown format.
Anyone out there who can help?
