  1. I'm having a problem with the combination of Nero, an HP200e burner, DVD+R, and Mintek player, and am hoping someone might have some suggestions.

Basically, I rip a DVD to files, using InstantCopy, DVDShrink. Next, I burn a DVD+R with Nero, using those files. The DVD+R plays fine on the PC with PowerDVD, so I know the DVD+R itself is fine. When I put it in the Mintek 1600 however, I get a message saying "No Disk".

I can burn those same files to DVD+RW using Nero, and it plays fine in the Mintek. That tells me that the files themselves are fine, and Nero is also OK. I can also burn a (home made) movie with both Studio 8 and MovieFactor 2 using DVD+R, and it works in the Mintek. That tells me that the media is OK, and that the Mintek can read DVD+R (not to mention I can read other people's DVD+Rs).

The 200e is at firmware rev 1.51, and all other software is also up to date. I think that I've logically eliminated everything, but I still have this one problem: burning a move to DVD+R with Nero cannot be read on the Mintek 1600.

I think I've eliminated Nero (works on the PC and with DVD+RW), the media (works with Studio 8, MF2, and I've tried both Fuji and HP media), the files created by ripping (they work fine when placed on DVD+RW), and the Mintek (works with DVD+R with Studio 8, MF2, and other people's DVD+Rs). I've eliminated everything I can think of, and the problem persists.

Has anyone every run into this type of problem or have any suggestions? Any ideas are more than welcome, since I'm getting tired of all these coasters, and using DVD+RW seems a bit much.

  2. Are you putting all the files into a VIDEO_TS folder then burning that folder?

  3. Yes, I drag all the files into the VIDEO_TS folder with Nero. It works with DVD+RW on the Mintek and PC, and also works with DVD+R on the PC. Just not DVD+R on the Mintek.

  4. Maybe try burning the DVD+R using MovieFactory2 since that worked on your home movie. I have the Mintek 1600 and I know for a fact it works well with DVD+R media. I use RecordNow Max to do my burns FYI.

Also I guess you could try a DVD+RW to DVD+R copy using MF2 and see if that works.

  5. As far as I know, MF2 cannot burn using the DVD files (VOBs, ,IFOs, etc.). I also know that the Mintek can read DVD+R, since mine does (as noted in my original post). The problem is not that it cannot read DVD+Rs all the time, since it can. The problem is that when I burn a DVD+RW with Nero the Mintek can read it, but when using the exact same files and procedures with DVD+R, the Mintek cannot read it.

I'm not after finding out which other programs I could buy, nor am I disputing that the Mintek can read other DVD+R media. My question is why I'm having this specific problem in the first place. Based on the experiments I've tried, the symptoms make very little sense.

  6. In case anyone else runs into this, the problem turned out to be Nero. Burning the files with Nero to DVD+R, the Mintek failed to read the DVD. Burning those exact same files to DVD+R with RecordNowMax, and the Mintek read the DVD just fine. No clue why this should happen, but at least I can now stop coaster production...

:icon5: Was UDF on or off when using Nero?

  8. I have no idea about whether UDF was on or off; I just used the default Nero settings. Now that you mention it, I do recall seeing something about UDF in some previous posts (duh...). Could that have been my problem? I hate to waste yet another DVD to try it out, but I suppose it's worth investigating. I'll see if I can find the post about UDF and Nero and give it a shot.
