My E30 is shutting itself off when I try to record to many of the silver top Accu discs I got from CDRDVDRMedia. Has this happened to anyone else or are my discs defective (I placed a return request on their site a few minutes ago)? I had this happen once or twice w/ BeAll discs but it would fix itself after the one shutoff, I can't get it to stop w/ the Accus.
Thanks!

I had this happen when I got ahold of a bad 10-pack of Verbatims. Recorder would shut off after few minutes. I would turn power back on, machine would go through recover, reread the disc and then it would work the second time. It was definately the discs. I've bought dozen of these 10 packs, before and after the problem, and it only occured with that 10 pack. Try a name brand like Fuji, Verbatim, tdk, or Maxell. Bet it doesn't happen.

This seems to be common with the E30. It happened to me with Riteks. The first 40 seconds of recording is put into memory, and the E30 tries to find the disk, and can't. I had this happen about 20% of the time with Ritek. After the machine recovered the dvd would always work. Now I'm using some cheapo Matrix dvds (shop4tech), which give me no problem at all. It's just the disks. Don't worry.

Oh great. Now it won't even read the Pan dvd-ram disc. It now says it needs to be formatted. And on another dvd-ram it is now playing some recordings screwy. -
When was your E30 manufactured? I read on other posts on this forum that people were having problems with units produced before October 2002. I believe there was some mention of firmware problems.

Ive had this happen. I believe I was using Chioce DVD-R dics, although sometimes Id try again and it would be ok. although by then youve missed some of TV prog.
I have read elsewhere you should try and Title the disc b4 you start recording on it, then you will know wether the E30 likes it or not. I use Datawrite Yellows in mine, very good and very compatible. -
Has anyone actually tried contacting a Panasonic factory service center about these problems? I think you should give it a try especially if your units still under warranty. Mike1977 for example your problem to me sounds like either a dirty optical or a bad optical. Especially since you are now having problems with the disk that came with the unit. If other people try cleaning their opticals like mike1977 always use the cleaner the manufacturer recommends, especially under the warranty period. That way if they ask if you cleaned the unit & what cleaner you used, you can honestly tell them you used their recommended cleaner. Also sometimes Service centers will sometimes ask you to bring in the cleaner you used to verify it wasn't the cleaner that damaged the unit. If you used another cleaner they might void your warranty.
