  1. I burned a DVD–R and it plays damn good
on my computer–almost a little too good.......
It wont play on my DVD player though.
I have a Samsung N–501, which according to
    this website is DVD–R compatible.
Did I maybe do something wrong when
    I burned it?
    Used OSEx to rip,
    Sizzle to create,
    and Toast to burn.

It often depends on the type of dvd-r media you use. The computer based dvd burners are very compatible w/ all media, but commercial dvd players will often fail to read many types of media. I've had good luck with Princo white-top dvd-r media, which is (relatively) cheap and very compatible. Ritek media is also supposedly quite compatible, although I have not had a chance to try it out. Try different brands until you find a good one, and stick to it. It might also be a problem with Sizzle dvds, which have been reported to have problems with many dvd players. Hope this helps. . .
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systčmes, le cas d'application excepté."

  3. found some Princo and Ritek DVD-R's for pretty cheap on the web.
But there are different prices. Can I go with the cheap ones
or should I spring for the more expensive ones? Also what is
the difference between a regular DVD-R and and authoring
    DVD-R?
