  1. Hi,

I was using TMPpgne to convert an avi file to an mpeg file. Well, after the conversion, I tried playing the now MPeg file and the video is fine, but only half the file actually had audio. So, I downloaded Virtual Dub but I halfway through, I get this error message saying that there is a "cyclic redundancy error." I assume that there is a problem with the .avi file, but is the problem repairable. does any one have any suggestions about this? I greatly appreciate the help.

You can also email me at: nodiggity47@yahoo.com

    Peace out.

A CRC error probably means the AVI file is damaged, yes. If the AVI file plays on your computer you may be able to fix it by setting the audio in VirtualDub to "direct stream copy" and then doing a "save wav". It won't actually be a wav file, it'll be using whatever audio codec the AVI audio used. besweet, headac3he, or some other audio program may be able to work around the error and convert it to a wav or mp2 file.
