I am a TMPG user who has been testing Mainconcept and CCE Basic encoders, since i hear the quality and speed are great. Using setting similar to TMPG CQ 70 for AVI to DVD for a 50 min clip here is what i have found:
1) MC and CCE are very fast, it takes them about 40 mins versus 110 mins for TMPG
2) The mpeg2 files created by MC and CCE are over 2 times larger than TMPG, 2 GB versus 900 MB
3) The pic quality for MC and CCE is not as good as TMPG, IMHO.
4) MC movies that are 23.97fps tend to freeze near the end during playback while the sound continues to play.
I am wondering if other people are getting similar results or if i am doing somthing wrong. I know alot of people are framserving to these encoders but i noticed a drop in performance when i do.

50 min is 2GB for CCE?
Right now I got a 2 hour movie encoded with CCE on a CBR encode with DVD bitrate (7000) and its barely a gig.. What did you use? and MPEg2 looks better on Tmpgenc? err... Did u use any filters with TEmpgenc? -
Just finished encoding a PHX How To lose a Guy In 10 Days part 1 57:37 and the mpeg2 file is 3.03 GB here are my CCE Basic settings:
Joint stereo
audio 256 kb 48000 Hz
System Stream on
Quality on
natural on
aspect ratio 4:3
CBR 7000
DVD compliant on
When using TMPG I am not using any filters just the NTSC DVD template. Maybe it is because I am using CCE Basic and not CCE SP
