  1. Hi there,

I could use some help with the following challenge:

I've been successful in capturing video from a VHS tape and making it into an .avi file on my hard drive. I know how to convert the .avi file into an .mpg file.

What I need to do is to ideally put this file onto a CD so that I can load the file from CD into my DVD Viewer (which is WinDVD 2000 on a Windows ME system). I need to be able to play the file using WinDVD 2000 and to be able to bookmark certain points on the CD file so that I can quickly jump from point to point while doing a presentation to a large group.

I don't know the step-by-step procedure to make this happen, starting with the .avi file or the .mpg file. I've now got on the hard drive.

Can folks give me a blow-by-blow description about how to do this and also what specific software I need to use? Thanks very much!!

    Here's my thoughts:

If you're playing it on a PC then you don't need to convert to Mpeg. Mpeg is usually used for VCD/DVD in set top DVD players.

Avi's can be put on CD directly as an ordinary data disk then opened with Windvd.

If you want to make a video sequence then you can chop the avi into separate little clips. This is easy to do with Virtualdub, check the Edit section for a guide to cutting. After burning to disk, these pieces can then be dragged and dropped into your player one at a time. Alternatively, the clips can be assembled into one continuous file that will play them in sequence (edit section- join). The second option might be a little more polished for a presentation, less fiddling with the computer.

Hope that helps a bit! 8)
