  1. I am trying to convert a 99 min movie from AVI to MPEG 1 or 2. The AVI currently is at 512x416 resolution.

What would be the best way to convert it to an MPEG? Would you suggest 1 or 2 and what resolution? Could I retain the resolution and bitrate(how do I determine the bitrate of the AVI?)? I'm looking for the best quality possible and for it to fit on 1 CD-R (800mb).

    Thanks.

To fit it all on one CD you will need to go with mpeg1/VCD. You will be making an XVCD (VCD out of spec) which may or may not work on your player. The resolution will be the VCD standard and the bitrate will be whatever is required to fill the disk. It's not going to be great quality, you're really squashing it. Try it and see if it's acceptable.

Here's a guide: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/84759.php Skip the ripping part and go to the part where he opens TMPGEnc. In the guide he mentions 2-pass VBR, I recommend it for better quality.
