  1. I am at a loss as how to convert the avi files to mpeg. I've tried using TMPEGnc but get no sound. I then tried using both Virtualdub and avi2wav, both gave me sound, but the sync was so out of whack I couldn't adjust. Why the problem with TMPEGnc???

Is there another program I should try.

    Thanks,

Since you get sound with Virtual Dub, you may want to use it to get the sound, and Use TMPGEnc to convert it to MPEG. The most efficient way to do this it to frameserve. But the easiest way is to use VDub to extract the sound, then TMPGEnc join the video and sound back together and encode to MPEG. Click here.

    Well, the problem isn't TMPGEnc.

You extracted a wav using Vdub, always do that and then use that as the audio source. But first......

Did you scan and remove bad frames before making the wav file?

Bad frames cause all kinds of problems when converting and they need to be removed first using Virtualdub or Virtualdub-MP3. Vdub-MP3 is used if you get a VBR pop-up warning when opening your file in regular Vdub.

    Here's the first method: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=152458&highlight=idiots+guide

    Here's the second: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=142555&highlight=frames

After removing bad frames (if there was any) then strip a wav file from your source file and use that as the audio input.
