I experienced the exact same problem. I backed up the movie only of Chamber of Secrets using DVDShrink and DVD2One. The DVDShrink one was jumpy and I was not at all pleased. The DVD2One version was great...
Not sure what caused this, but since DVD2One worked fine and I already paid for it, I am just going to continue using this...Use what works for you... -
I'm not quite sure what the cause for your jumpy frame rate might be. Does that occur when you attempt to replay on a standalone player or back with your PC drive. I've done dozens of movies with either DVDx COpy from 321 studios and the FREE DVD Shrink all without a simgle problem. WHile I am encoding and or copying to the HD ( is the movie itself happens to fit the target size of 4.38 Gig ) I leave my PC and do not run or touch anything. This is also true to burning the final DVD backup. Also, what you refer to "Pixilation" is actually called "MacroBlocking". It is a video compression artifact. You can see a pefect example of that is you take a look at some of the video that it's being sent from the Gulf. It has to be so highly compressed so it will travel through a the phone system, that it looks simply terrible. Another good bit of practice when using DVD Shrink to copy like the first 200 MBs and them close the program. You can open the partial VOB file on most players that will play DVD and you will have a pretty good idea about just how good or bad the final results will look like on your PC Monitor. This is especially ideal when you have to use a fair amount of re-encoding compression to reach the 4.38 Gig of a regular DVD-R 4.7 Gig disk. Also keep in mind that if you are going to be watching the DVD backup on a regular TV ( not High Definition TV ), any degradation of the video image you might see on your PC monitor with disappear when you see it on the regular TV. The lower resolution of regular TV with NOT be able to diplay any small loss in video quality.
I hope this helps

DVD Shrink is different from other transcoders because it doesn't just compress all the frames, it only compresses certain types of frames depending on which compression level you select. So, depending on your level, it will either compress only B, P, or I frames. So as you watch the movie, some frames will have been left completely untouched, and others will have been heavily compressed resulting in pixellation. This is why the pixellation appears and dissapears and seems to jump around.

On my home DVD player cyber home and yukai standalone both display the same pixilation and jumps I don’t actually do anything else while encoding and burning but have been reading the tutorials should I be discarding the unnecessary audio subtitles etc to get a better compression value

These programs are transcoders, not encoders. Encoders will analyze the movie itself and attempt to distribute bitrate intelligently, to maximize quality at a given filesize.
Transcoders simply take all frames, or specific type of frames (I, P, of B) and compress the hell out of them. Its fast because it doesn't have to analyze anything about the source, but its low quality because it compresses randomly.
In my opinion, transcoding always results in noticable artifacts unless you are using a very low compression ration. So, in my opinion, if you insist on using a transcoder, you should strip out any unneeded content. If you don't speak french then you really don't need the french audio track. The subs really aren't that big a deal though because they hardly take up any space. Transcoders are good for people who only want the movie on a disk, with no menu's or extras. If you are like me and want to make a 1:1 copy than transcoders just don't cut it for most DVD9's. The only way I can get acceptable quality is to re-encode manually and then reauthor the assets. -
I use the matrix for most of my testing..I have not tested it on dvd2one..I might buy that ..looks cool.
anyways on dvdshrink...I ripped the movie and everything else..
level 4 on menus and extras and level 3 on movie..
movie is almost 2.5 hours and on my 36 inch sony wega it looked GREAT!!!!!
If you really look close you can see the pixilation but I love dvdshrink.....

My friend just came here to test DVD-R.
He have a Uncompressed version on DVDr and one with DVDshrink.
On fast looking, you dont see any difference detween those 2 version (the movie is over 2 hours)
I made a test and play some part of the movie with a 4X zoom. then you can see a small defference. But I don't think this difference worth the second DVDr.
Also on playback with DVDShrink version, I have noticed some white dot jumping few time.. (about 3 dot in 10 minutes) you need to look very closely to see this. I don't know if it's the main movie or the compression. -
Hey guys,
There are no "pixels" in video. What you are refering to as pixilation is really called Macro Blocking and it's a compression artifact just like JPEGing is to digital images which ARE indeed made up of "pixels" A great example if the war video phone video you can see in the news channels.
About DVD Shrink,,, I've had nothing but success with it. So far I've "Shrunk" a 2:30 hour movie with excellent results as well as about 15 others. I've burned them onto DVD-R with the latest Nero Burn and even with the crapiest no nae DIsks, I;ve had not ONE turne ouot bad. Just lucky I guess!
I used to rip hundreds of movies to DVIX /Avi format and got it down to an art form with DVDx but after dicovering DVD Shrink and DVD X COPY, I don;t bother with DIVX anymore. No DVD can withstand the power of DVDShrink along with AnyDVD! -
I noticed the "macro blocking" on my stand alone player. Grant it, it was my first time using DVDShrink, but I think I did everything right...
What is the best guide for using DVDShrink that you all have seen?
Thanks.Use what works for you... -
I've only done 2 movies with DVDshrink. The first needed no compresion and came out perfect. The second needed level 1. It didn't have macro blocking, but about 6 or 7 times during play back on set top player it would stutter a frame no and then. Kind of like freezing for a tenth of a second. I let DVDshrink rip the movie of the disk. I wonder if I'd used DVDdecripter to rip movie to HDD, Mabe it would be bettter. Anybody tried that way?
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........
