  1. Hello, I need help. I open a MPEG2 file with Virtualdub and want to convert it to AVI. When I go to save the file I get the message:

You are using an outdated video compression codec. Consider using a newer codec such as Indeo 4.x/5.x or MPEG-4 for higher quality and smaller files.

I tried using all the options for video compression and I either get Couldn't find compatible format.

Am I missing something? Do I need to get some sort of codec?

    Thank you in advance..

  2. i guess your useing the moded vdub so you can open the mpg2 file.
i would go to the left <<< under tools and redownload divx 3.11 divx 4.12 and the new xvid. then unistall the current ones under your control panel and then reinstall the codecs you just got. should solve your problem

  3. I found the DviX 5.0.3 and installed that codec and removed the MPEG-4 codec's I found (They were bad) and I was able to convert perfectly.
I'm using the Creative Labs Digital VCR to caputre TV programs and VHS videos. I use the CL/D/VCR conversion MPEG program (which converts to non standard MPEG). I load this file into Virtualdub and convert it to AVI and author it in Pinnacle Studio 8. This works pretty good for me! Thank you. :P

If anybody knows of a good way to convert the non compliant digital VCR MPEG to a compliant MPEG, let me know.

  4. can you not just demultiplex the file in tmpg under file > mpeg tools > demultiplex, and then multiplex them back you will get a compliant file.
    i use
    vcd use mpeg vcd non-standard
    svcd use super vcd (vbr)

  5. I tried to use tmpg but the converted file would not load. I'm at work right now so I don't know the error. My 30 day trial period, for mpeg files, is over tomorrow. I will give it another try tonight. If I get it to work, approxmately how long does the process take?
