I,ve got the new Windows XP Pro build 2600 but I am in doubt wether to install it or not . I,ve heard about Tmpeg and Virtual Dub not working properly.
Has anyone had any of these problems on WinXP or anyone not had problems using WinXP & encoding.

Well, with the new driver signing, they're going to have control over what drivers can or cannot be installed, period. Say goodbye to the DivX codecs you know and love, say hi to Microsoft's DivX codecs.
-
Here we go again, the misinformation on Windows XP abounds by people who haven't tested/used it. DivX codecs work just fine in Windows XP.
Also driver signing does not prevent you from installing drivers, Windows XP will balk saying the drivers are not digitally signed. You just ignore the warning and the drivers install.
For LighthouseJ... TMPEGENC works with XP, as does FlaskMPEG, Premiere, Sonic Foundry's Video Factory. I do have some issues with my ATI Radeon AIW software being unreliable but I think it's an ATI issue. Also my Webcam Software ChillCam works intermittently. I haven't tried VirtualDub.
My advice is to leave your current OS intact and install XP on a seperate partition. That way if you decide it's not for you, you can fall back on your unaltered OS. -

All of what he said is accurate. If you have an ATI Radeon, then MMC 7.x is incompatable with XP (They will probably issue a compatable update come September or Oct, ot have some VERY angry customers).
The driver thing is optional (read carefully). You have to choose "Continue" or "Install Anyway" and be an Administrator. It really tries hard to convince you not to install unsigned drivers, but you can do it regardless. It's been the same for this for several builds, and forseeably the final. -
Thanks homerpez. Everything I heard from reports in the news, they said that you can't install any drivers not cleared by Microsoft. If there is some mechanism that allows you to defeat that, then the news failed to mention that.
Also, GaToR70, I never said anything about incompatabilities between any programs and Windows XP. I only talked about codecs. Lastly, I don't need you to tell me how to test run new versions of Windows, I can do it myself, thanks.

im currently using XP, its a lifesaver, and i installed tons of un-signed drivers... oh, and i can say CinemaCraft works and so does avisynth and azid, basically all of the tools in dvd2svcd work. it works with 98 drivers too. im really happy, stable as a rock (btw i have the DEVILS0WN FiNAL release). runs great at higher reses, i mean, there have been soooooo many misconseptions about it.

i was using win xp build 2600 and when i opened tmpgenc it took forever and seemed to just lag....it really effected all of my gaming so i went back to the crappy win me

XP Works just fine here, haven't tried Virtual dub, but Tmpeg works great =) And so does the rest of the stuff I'm using. I'd say install on a different partition and try it out yourself. Also using Devilsown final release.

I have been using the final build of XP for about a week. TMPGEnc runs great, as do DVD2AVI, Premiere, Avisynth, etc.
-
I too confirm WinXP works great with TMPGEnc, VirtualDub, and DVD2AVI...

Hey Jeomite, Which drivers are you using for WinXP and your PCTV Pro? I did an upgrade from Win98 and tried some supposed beta Pinnacle drivers and others, but had poor results. I am waiting for the proper released Pinnacle drivers for now. I would like to retry the drivers you are using.
