  1. Hi. I have a problem ripping dvds to divx avi. The outcome is really bad. Ive tried almost 15 different prgs by now, but none of them seem to do the trick. Recently I tried prgs like EasyDivX and Gordian Knot. Gordian was a really good prg, with lots of editing possibilities. Maybe one of the best Iīve tried. But the final avi-file was REALLY bad.

Even after trying to change settings etc in the program and doing the whole process over and over again...(using a simple how-to-step-by-step-guide) I got a poor avi-file. But then again, that goes to all of the prgs Iīve tried. The final outcome is really bad.

Other prgs Iīve tried are Replica, Dvd-to-"whatever-you-want", etc. Itīs really frustrating actually. I know that there HAS to be really good prgs out there. But I just canīt seem to find any... Or maybe Iīm missing something.?

Iīve heard something about a hardware problem. Could this be it? The only thing a faster (better) computer would do (what I think), must be to increase the speed of the procedure.? Or am I wrong?! Can a slower computer actually decrease the quality on the output avi?

By the way, I tried a program called FlaskMPEG today, and when it came to selecting videocompressor I just couldnīt choose any divX. All I can choose is Intel:Video 4:2:0 V.2.50. Some windows-videocompressor I think.

Maybe this is the case with GOrdianKnot also?! That even if I choose divX 3.11 or 5.02 (I CAN choose either in Gordian), it uses this old videocompressor.? I have installed dozens of codecs. (Nimo codecpac 5 etc) Do you think this is whats wrong?! If so, how can I fix it?

Would be grateful for any tips or help!! Thanx =)[/b]

  2. I'm no expert, but it sounds like your problem is the installation of too many codecs. I would install only the codecs you primarily use. (Uninstall all of them first. Then, install the ones you will mostly be using with when making AVIs.)

I've been experimenting with FlaskMPEG myself using version 0.7.8.39 which comes from the originator's (Alberto Vigata') website. I also downloaded VirtualDub version 1.5.1 which finally works on my computer after deleting various unused codecs. I've heard too many bad things regarding this Nimo codec pack. I just searched for and downloaded the necessary codecs one at a time. Both programs work quite well now!
