Hello.
I just found out that my APEX AD-600A does not play DVD-Rs. (I do not want to open the case to find out which drive it has, plus, if the drive firmware upgrade doesn't work, it would ruin the player.) I've heard good things about the Sampo DVE-612. Does it play DVD-Rs out of the box? Or will I have to do things like open the case and preform unsupported upgrades to make it do this?
Thank you.

yes, it plays most discs, no rw's though i used,
the key to this player is....
It WILL play data files, like mpegs without
converting to vcd or anything like that,on dvd-r's,
also plays jpg's on cdr's...
Only $60 or so....
