How can I place alot of different albums on one DVD that will play in my standalone DVD player. I would like to back-up all my Pink Floyd CD's to one DVD. I would also like the TV to display the title and artist.

I know there has got to be a way to do this but when I do a search I get a bunch of non-related stuff.

    Thanks

  2. Really depends on your DVD player.
What I do is set up a folder for each artist then copy the music (I use MP3) into them. With MP3s I can hold about 999 songs total. The display of titles is very limited.

I create a folder for each album and put the mp3 version of the song in it.
My standalone provides a kind of navigation screen to access folders..
    Quit simple...

  4. The MP3 route is probably the simplest option for you. Since you are effectively using the DVD as a data DVD (i.e. with 4.35 GB of storage) and not as a video DVD. Bear in mind that the MP3 route is soley dependant on the DVD player supporting MP3s.

The other option is to actually author a video DVD. This is the route I am taking. I have put all of U2's 13 albums on a video DVD with dolby digital 2.0 sound (you can't do this with PCM because it will eat up all your storage). The main menu shows all the album covers and when an album is selected it shows the title listing etc. I know some of you will be thinking why go through the bother? Well the answer is why not? I'll be able to play the DVD on any player that supports DVD-/+R playback.

So Trust_No_1 that is the way I want to do it. I want it to be able to play in any DVD player.

How do you go about doing it?

  6. Ok, this is what I did. Remember, there's always more than one way to skin a cat.

I use Scenarist as my DVD authoring tool. You can use any tool as long as it supports AC3 2 channel. This is important because PCM audio is the same size as the WAV file and will eat up your storage space. AC3 is compressed audio, e.g. 141 U2 songs = 860MB AC3 2.0 audio as opposed to 6.67 GB WAV audio. Note: This is moot for DVD-9 media.

All the DVD contains are menu files with AC3 audio. There are no video files at all.

    The breakdown is as follows:

    1) Encode all WAV audio as AC3 2.0. This is built into Scenarist but I think bbsweet does this for you as well - check the faqs.

    2) Each album is a DVD title. I have chosen to display the album cover graphics and the user can make a choice.

    3) Each DVD title has a menu that lists all the album tracks.

    4) Each album track can be selected to play individually or the whole album can be played. In fact it's designed so that all 141 tracks can be played uninterrupted.

Most DVD authoring tools should allow you to build the above structure. Scenarist allows me to perform some more advanced functionality such as jumping directly from one title or menu to another etc.

If the above is too duanting, a really simple solution is to encode all your audio as AC3 2.0. Create a large menu file that lists all the tracks. For each track create a menu with audio.

Unfortunately, there is no "one click" solution available especially if you want to control the interface.

    Hope that helps!
