  1. I've got a misc d/loaded mpg file that I want to use as an intro to a VCD I'm making. The problem is that I don't know what type of MPEG file it is (and I'd rather not re-encode it if at all possible to avoid the quaility hit).

    I've used the porgram MPEG properties but it give resultion and bitrate, doesn't say if MPEG1 or MPEG2.

  2. Load it in the TMPGEnc de-multiplex dialog and see what type of video stream it says it is.

  3. look at the properties of the movie under the windows media player file tab ....look at the video property (codec)

    Another good way to tell is that all computers have MPEG1 codec install so if windows media player likes it then it's MPEG1.
