  1. Is there a process (I have not seen) to set up Whisper within Subtitle Edit for a language such as Hebrew?
I know github has a standalone program for this but for me it would have to be just simple without
    command line refs etc.

I have only seen English as a source language within SE that does not produce an error.

Also would this produce text in Western alphabet rather than Hebrew script?

SE also shows an option to translate to English on the Whisper screen with a check box. Has anyone used that feature with good grammatical output?

Whisper AI does supports so many languages including Arabic and Hebrew.
I don't use Subtitle Edit but my guess is that you should be able to get Hebrew subtitles in Hebrew characters. It all depends on which software option you are using.
Just out of curiosity, what is your source video title?

  3. Confidentiality is a slight issue but it's a version of The Merchant of Venice in Hebrew from a Hebrew company playing in London. It was made available to an English-speaking theatre group. So the goal is to make that version of the play available to English speakers via subtitles. Going through that many steps is beyond my depth but the initial step of Hebrew to audio would help another subber with the process.
