    Hi.

I have such a question - VHS tape digitized to DVD (720x576). So what is the correct PAR of such a clip? 16/15 as ffmpeg says?

    Hi.

For a 4:3 PAL 720x576 DVD: If the picture has left and right small black bars of about 8 pixels each side the PAR is usually 12:11, otherwise typically 16/15. But as ffmpeg doesn't "see" the black bars it will always report 16/15 for a 4:3 720x576 PAL DVD.
Keep in mind that the DVD standard specifies the DAR only which is 4:3 or 16:9. It doesn't explicitly specify the PAR.
