I'm having problems extracting subtitles from a TV series I found online.
Here's what I do
yt-dlp --allow-u --write-subs --all-subs --skip-download "https://c9851ec-az-westeurope.fsly.cdn.ebsd.ericsson.net/rtbf/auvio/assets/2988000_6BA97Bb/materials/YHzeWnOHuc_6BA97Bb/vod-idx-5.ism/.mpd?" -o 01.mp4
it produces a mp4 file
When I try to extract the vtt file inside it gets the following output:

Try using N_m3u8dl-re, i find it better with some subtitles.

you can know before the res streaming with < yt-dlp - F link > or also when you put an mpd in N_m3u8DL-RE
they show the resolution before downloading

to get 1080p sometimes need some tricks. but this depends by your video link

Found the solution.
The subtitle file is encrypted.
After I decrypted it I was able to extract the vtt file.

at a guess, the subs in encrypted mp4 were put through mp4decrypt and the resulting decrypted file was demuxed it's raw streams via mp4box. Rte use a similar approach, but there is an unencrypted hls-text in RTE too that bypasses all this.

Have tried connecting to a number of different NordVPN .IE servers with no joy. Only way at the moment is using a personal OpenVPN .

Did you manage to get the keys?
What you have are probably the encrypted video and audio files. Now you need to decrypt them with mp4decrypt.exe
For convenience, rename them to video.mp4 and audio.m4a
Then open cmd in that folder and run these commands

mp4decrypt.exe --key bla:bla video.mp4 vid_dec.mp4
mp4decrypt.exe --key bla:bla audio.m4a aud_dec.mp4
ffmpeg.exe -i vid_dec.mp4 -i aud_dec.mp4 -c copy finalvideo.mp4

Can anyone explain to me what im doing wrong whenever they get the time? i thank you guys in advance!

Put invert commas around the mpd url. The & is splitting the url and your machine thinks enc, ut, kg etc are commands which it rightfully does not recognise.

You're going to have to post the url of the video, not the mpd and see if someone with acces sto your country can offer help.
