So I have my computer hooked up to my TV via an HDMI connection. The aspect ratio on the TV is incorrect when I watch movies played through my computer. When I watch movies on my computer the aspect ratio looks perfect, but when I connect the computer to the TV, the aspect ratios are becoming distorted. Any suggestions?

You have to adjust the aspect ratio settings on the TV, either to AUTO or to the desired aspect ratio for each film.

also if your tv and computer have different resolutions , you can get trouble.

    my HP 17 core i5 is 12xx *768 aka 16:9
my vizio TV is 1920*1080 aka 16:9

the image is always correct aspect
its about aspect ratio, NOT pixel resolution

if both Tv an PC display are 16:9
something is set wrong, either on the TV or in the dual display settings in windows for the TV 2nd display

That is more likely to be 16/10 than 16/9, which is more common for computer screens. Without know what number the 'xx' actually are I can't say for sure.
