I want to transfer several PAL VCDs to NTSC DVD. I plan on playing the VCDs in my CH 300S and running the output through my TBC and then into my JVC M10 recorder and recording each individual disc. That way it will be an NTSC compatible backup.

Now, each of the 3 VCDs is about 400-450MB in size. What record setting would be the best choice for the M10? I don't want to lose any quality, but I also don't want to have a file that is just too fricken' huge. I am hoping to get about 6 or 8 VCDs onto one DVD (which is why I have to go this roundabout route of converting to NTSC for these three particular discs).

There is 1, 2, 4, and 6 hours settings, and the FR setting that can do anything from 60 minutes to 540 minutes (I think it goes that high). Each VCD is about 45 minutes, but is broadcast quality video.

Any recommendations, or could someone point me in the right direction so I can research how to figure this out? Like I said, I don't want a 4GB file for a 45 minute broadcast quality video file, but I'm not sure at what point the quality might be degraded even further than the original.

    Thanks for any help!

Playing a VCD to a DVD recorder will lose SUBSTANTIAL quality. Horrible idea.

Best way to put VCD onto DVD:

The guide does not reference anything about going from PAL to NTSC. Is that something that will happen automatically? I thought that was a major problem, and is why I thought going this route would be my easiest option.

Or did i miss something somewhere?
